Grevillea Robusta
Also known as: The Southern Silky Oak, or the Australian Silver Oak
A medium to large tree commonly planted as an ornamental in many warm-temperate and semi tropical climates. It is a native of eastern coastal Australia and is now naturalized in Hawaii and southern Florida. It is a fast-growing evergreen tree, between 18–35 m (59–115 ft) tall, with dark green delicate leaves reminiscent of a fern frond. It is in the Proteaceae family and produces showy golden-orange bottlebrush-like blooms in the spring that can be used for honey production. The flowers are hermaphrodite (have both male and female organs) and are pollinated by Bees. Black, leathery seed capsules follow the flowers and produce one or two flat, lightweight winged seeds that are widely disseminated by wind.
When young it can be grown as a houseplant where it can tolerate light shade, but prefers full sun as it grows best in warm zones. If planted outside, young trees need protection on frosty nights. Once established it is hardier and tolerates temperatures down to −8 °C (18 °F). It needs occasional water but is otherwise fairly drought-resistant.
This offer is for 10 seeds.
