The flowers are hermaphrodite (have both male and female organs) and are pollinated by Bees. It can fix Nitrogen.
It is noted for attracting wildlife. It is a perennial and is hardy down to zone 4. It grows in nutritionally poor soil and does not grow well in the shade. It makes for a good ground cover and soil stabilizer for sunny banks and slopes. It can grow rampantly and become invasive.
