Caesalpinia Pulcherrima White 7 Seeds, Mexican Bird Of Paradise Small Shrub or Tree
Caesalpinia Pulcherrima
Also known as: The White Bird of Paradise, Pride of Barbados, Poinciana,
Peacock Flower, Mexican Bird Of Paradise.
This full sun beauty is great for smaller yards or an indoor houseplant, only growing to about 3-10ft. Blooms just as well in a pot or planted right in the ground! This can grow to 3-6ft wide as a bush or can also be trained into a small tree. White to cream colored blooms with yellow centers will have very long showy stamens that will appear spring through summer and will attract hummingbirds.
These are on the drought tolerant side, and not high maintenance, what more could you ask for! Hardiness: USDA Zones 8 - 11. Peacock flower dies to the ground following frost or freezing temperatures, but in zone 8B, at least, it comes back reliable, late or middle spring. Don't give up on it! Peacock flower has survived temperatures as low as 18 F. It can be grown as an annual in colder climates. Even under frost free conditions, peacock flower may lose its leaves when temperatures drop into the 40's.
Medicinal uses in different cultures may include:
The juice from the leaves is said to cure fever, the juice from the flower is said to cure sores, and the seeds are said to cure bad cough, breathing difficulty, and chest pain. Four grams from the root is also said to induce abortion in the first trimester of pregnancy. This is for informational purposes only and not to be taken as advice.
This offer is for 7 seeds.
